# How do I launch an analysis?

## Learn how to launch an analysis

Users can launch a new analysis by entering a Project and clicking on "New analysis" in the Overview screen.

Analysis launch is performed in three distinct steps, described below:

1. **Select Workset** - allows you to choose the appropriate analysis workset, from the ones compatible with your project's metadata.
2. **Selecting Samples** is divided into two sections: 
     - **2.1. Set options:** describes the selected workset and reference genome. It also allows adding padding through the "Extra calling padding" functionality if applicable, and choosing the UMI processing mode if applicable.
     - **2.2. Select sample(s):** allows selecting samples for analysis. Samples that have never been analyzed have a blue 'New' marker. Users can automatically select all new samples using the 'select all new' function.
3. **Confirm Analysis** - summarizes the selected samples. For each analysis to be launched, it is possible to apply a restricted panel by selecting one or more gene lists via the "Locked panel" option.
   
   The "Locked panel" option will apply a filter to the analysis in the form of one or more gene lists. This option does not affect variant calling, which is determined by the project manifest and added padding.
   
   The choice of locked panels is reversible; the user can modify these panels from the Panel tab of the analysis management side panel after analysis completion.
